CHILDREN'S MUSEUM MISSION STATEMENT, VISION, & COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION:

The purpose of the Children's Museum is to provide educational and cultural enrichment to children and their families to "experience, create, and learn" in an educationally enjoyable environment. Particular emphasis is placed upon history, natural history, science and culture. The primary audience shall be children 3-12 years old. As a secondary service goal, exhibits and activities are developed for younger and older children.

The Museum shall serve children through exhibits, activities, and educational programs. Exhibits and programs will, as much as possible, be interactive and hands-on to engage our visitors in participatory activities and to stimulate young imaginations. Exhibits and education will reflect the character and needs of our region and our visitors.

Education programs shall be provided at the Museum to school groups, day care providers, scout groups, and community organizations. All programs offered by the Museum are reviewed and developed with the Museum's goal of 'learn, experience, create' in the forefront of the developer's mind, making sure they relate to the museum's mission.

The Museum shall acquire and preserve education, research, and permanent collections of exhibits, objects and artifacts relevant to our mission. The objects will be studied, displayed and used to stimulate curiosity and motivate learning in exhibits and education programs. The Museum's collections shall be maintained in accordance with accepted Museum standards.

The Children's Museum attracts visitors and program attendees from throughout Central New York, we attract tourists from throughout the country and the world. The actual historic building in which it's housed serves to make the Children's Museum stand out in the community as the only tourist and school field trip destination that can offer the type of programs and knowledge that can only be experienced at the Museum. There is NO other local organization that can do that.

We meet the need of helping to insure a positive quality of life community in which to live by having a museum that is open year round, providing an outstanding family environment of an enjoyably educational experience. The museum is also a major factor in contributing to the local economy by drawing tourists year round, especially in the summer when so many visitors come to Upstate New York to vacation.
