Dear friends & supporters - On behalf of the Children's Museum of Utica NY celebrating our 50th year in business, to commemorate this unique occasion, on Saturday, November 30th from 9:30am to 2:30pm, we will be holding our unique Family “Holidays On Main Street”. located in our beautiful historic building in Baggs Square! We would like to thank you for your support in the past and ask for your support for a very important endeavor. We are beginning our journey towards an addition of a STEM Center w/Nano-Tech interactive activities & a Planetarium plus Office Space with Loft Apartments.

We are beginning what we know will excite, educate and entertain thousands of young minds for many years to come. The new addition will support teaching areas with learning centers, a theatre for planetarium shows, and an ecological center. This addition will also house loft apartments and office spaces. All of these additions will help financially sustain the work at the museum. (please see attached description).

We are asking for your help. Your kindness and generosity will reach far into the future as we continue to enlighten minds as we help set the seeds of dreams to come. It’s a perfect tie-in to our local and regional Nano-Tech endeavors. Please help us continue our mission with a tax deductible donation. This will be a hand-on educationally enjoyable experience, one the whole family can enjoy at a reasonable price! And you can purchase a raffle ticket for really cool prize drawings, including our brand new Children’s T-Shirt!

Share wishes w/Santa & Mrs. Claus, View our Festival of Trees, Enjoy NASA & Science exhibits, w/ food Astronauts ate in space & 'diapers' they wore! Find out how much you weigh on each planet; 'Pilot' an airplane? 'Run' a huge set of trains? Feed hamsters & turtle? Build Lego Robotics? Enjoy an LED Play Dance Floor? Interactive Erie Canal exhibit? Watch an interactive History Diorama? Step into an Iroquois Longhouse? Enjoy a Paleontology Dinosaur Corner? A Musical Stage? Push buttons & interact with a Saturn car? Interact with a 2-story Exploration Space, including a Healthy Kids Hut Grocery Store? Climb through a life-size wooden train? Enjoy PlaySpace for children 3 & under + Baby Space for infants!

A comment in the New York Times read: “We are more than our investments. We are what we do for charity and our community.” So how do children’s museums survive in a difficult economy? When updating future visions, boards and directors look at ways to earn the trust of the community that gives its time, talents and funds. That means asking for letters of appreciation and support from elected officials.

Why is this important? When we applied to become an historic building, Cathy Jimenez of the state Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation said, “This museum is a great example of adaptive reuse of a building, balancing historic preservation with economic development.” Constructed in the 1890s, our 5-story brick building’s Romanesque Revival exterior remains imposing, the period’s charm inside features a decoratively paneled central oak staircase, 14 foot high ceilings sheathed in fancy pressed tin, and loft windows. It also means being proud of histories. Organized in October 1963 by the Junior League, Utica’s Children’s Museum proudly now includes four floors of interactive exhibits for ‘kids’ 1 to 101.

Adding a STEM center w/Nano-tech interactive exhibits & a Planetarium + Office Space & Loft Apartments will add to the region’s Nano Plans which kids young and old will love & learn from, & people will be hired! We hope you’ll be there at this popular and cool event, unlike anything else in the region! For more info, check above or here.

With gratitude and appreciation. - Marlene Brown and the Board of Directors

An Nov. 27, 2011 article in Utica OD by Dan Miner reports that "Santa and Mrs. Claus sat on the third floor of the Children’s Museum of History, Natural History, Science and Technology. They welcomed a steady stream of young children, listening to their fondest wishes.“We come every year,” said Kate Entwistle, of Litchfield. “It’s our first stop to see Santa.” More than 180 people made use of the building’s four floors, many interactive exhibits and holiday elements by day’s end. Executive Director Marlene Brown said the day is "to honor the diverse cultures of people that live in the region and make the museum a place where children can learn by taking part in activities. They learn best by doing has always been my philosophy..” On Saturday, that seemed to have worked, as children and parents took part in exhibit after exhibit. Brown said the event has grown each year in its number of volunteers, exhibits, attendees. It impressed at least one-first attendee, Jeanne Schmidt, of Richfield Springs. Schmidt, a New Hartford native, showed up with her husband, one-year-old daughter, and members of her extended family. “It’s just awesome,” Jeanne Schmidt said of the museum. “There’s so much to do, and it’s very kid friendly.”

Not only did the kids climb on Santa's lap, families also got in on the photo sessions!
